for all you NCAA basketball fans

I know there's some of you out there watching. You secretly like Dick Vitale's raspy voice, I know it. I do.... Wait, what??

Anyways, in light of March Madness and the Final Four, and college decisions (yay!), I wanted to post this cute little college mascot awards list from Steve Popp's blog. The Mascots are truly the source of Madness!

Most Impressive Array of Mascots by a State University System: The University of California. The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos, the UC Irvine Anteaters and the UC San Francisco Dons, all wonderfully complement the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs.

Way to represent California, you Banana Slug, you.

Mascot Most Likely to Scare Small Children: The Purdue Boilmaker.

Oh, you're definitely scary alright.

Most Outdated Mascot: The Manhattan Jaspers. The Jaspers were named after Brother Jasper, a Christian clergyman from the 1880s who brought sports to the college.

Most Creative Name for Having a Chicken as a Mascot: Trinity College (Connecticut) Bantams.

Most Oxymoronic Mascot: The University of Pennsylvania Fighting Quakers. My personal favorite!

Most Likely to Confound a Meteorologist Mascot: The Tulsa Golden Hurricane. According to the University of Tulsa, when in 1922 the team looked for a new name, the more apropos “Tornadoes” was already taken.

Best Alternative Mascot to Official School Mascot: The Long Beach State “Dirtbags.” All Long Beach State teams officially are the 49ers, but the baseball team goes by the “Dirtbags.” The Wichita State Shockers, who have a doozy of a mascot themselves, lost to Long Beach State this month producing one of the best sports headlines of the year, “ Shocks fall to Dirtbags 7-4.”

My personal favorite mascots?

The Stanford Tree: This guy is amazing. Every Stanford basketball game I go to, the tree seems to always be different. Little secret? I dream of being the person who gets to dance and twirl around in this tree. The Stanford tree is. bad. ass. end of story. It's just an added bonus he gets to dance around to the music the crazy infamous Stanford Band plays.

University of California's Oskie the Bear: Just look at this guy! He reminds me of my grandpa. It's just slightly ironic my dad went there. Check out his old school Varsity Cardigan, I want! He's got those classy white gloves on, and crew socks going on. Everytime I go to a Cal game, he's roaming the court like it's nobody's business. Oskie the Bear is a true class act.

What's your favorite/craziest/weirdest college mascot?

these are a few of my favorite things... lately

What a busy weekend. I'm so glad it's over. Friday night, yes, friday night, I spent the night at my school. It was a bit of a drag. The reason I was there was for an overnight food fast that I had to attend in order to require. Personally, I think requiring people to attend events takes away from the purpose of the event. But all in all, I am very glad I went! I learned so much about world hunger, and spent the evening/morning with my amazing classmates and one of my favorite teachers! I can't even say I was very hungry through out the whole thing. The only part I was a bit bitter about was having to be in the school building the whole time. Cry baby soup, right? It really was a great event and a fun opportunity! Saturday I spent at home, relaxing, with some family time, since my dad had been away last week. We went to dinner at one of my favorite asian restaurants (I feel like I say that every time I talk about a restaurant!!) called Shiok! , exclamation mark included. Yummm. It's super small, and by small I mean 10-12 tables, and they serve delicious Singaporean foods! Definitely my favorite ethnic foods. I could go on and on about the amazing dishes we had... a person next to us was eating some type of Emu meat. Is that common? I wonder if it tasted like chicken. Why do I tend to think Emus are endangered? Hmmm... How was YOUR weekend!?

Did I mention I think I've finally made a decision as to where I will be attending school next fall? I'm almost positive I'll be in New York at Fordham University! :D
Anyways, I've decided to do a little tribute to a few of my favorite things, as of right now... at least.
"A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous" -Coco Chanel
Favorite quote? I think yes. It will also be my senior quote. :D

Favorite TV show (all time, not lately): 30 Rock. How can you not love Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey's humor? It's impossible. But LATELY, my favorite shows been Undercover Boss. It seems like a dumb, scripted show, but it's actually a great concept they have going on. You'll especially enjoy it if you're completely anti-big corporation, etc. It's cute, and interesting! And brings some sort of optimism to my view of big corporation/companies.
Favorite songs lately:
- Pinball Wizard : The Who
- Rodeo Clowns : G. Love & Special Sauce w/ Jack Johnson
- Change of Heart : El Perro Del Mar
- Something Good Can Work : Two Door Cinema Club
- Swing : Zero 7

Favorite movie lately: The Blind Side! This weekend I finally got a chance to watch this amazing movie! Oh boy do I love Sandra Bullock (I'm not even going to talk about Jesse James and Miss Hussy McGee... ew gross). If you haven't seen this movie yet, its definitely a must see! One of those heart warming movies you can't help to shed a tear to.
Favorite Target designer collaboration: Liberty of London!!!! Ah! Well, lets say my mom is a huge fan, so after she came home with dozens of adorable Liberty of London print shirts and shorts and boxers, I fell in love. She bought herself a couple of shirts also, and some kitchenware. If you're a fan of Liberty of London, it's absolutely imperative you head to your nearest Target... now. Right now!! Don't you just love these Target collabs?! What's your favorite Target designer?? What designer do you wish Target would hookup with?

how to prevent dress stealing/childish antics.

First of all, I apologize in advanced for the couple of posts to come in the future about prom. This year for prom, one of my classmates came up with an ingenious idea to start a facebook group to ensure that no one at our all girls school, would wear the same dress. I happen to think it's an amazing idea! As soon as a girl has bought the dress / is strongly considering buying it then they post a picture on the groups wall to officially "claim" the dress. I love the idea, because in all honesty, who wants to spend such a special night, comparing yourself to a girl who has the exact same dress as you. Trust me, if that happened to me, I would spend the night making absolute sure I was at opposite ends of the room from the other girl. Oh boy. While I think this is a fabulous idea, lately it's been having many adverse consequences. Lots of drama, but then again, what else is new at an all girls school, right? Save the drama for your mama ladies! But however, I also love seeing everyone's dresses too, beforehand!! It seems the trend this year is long, bright prints. When I went shopping at this Ambiance store on Haight, notorious for their evening dress selection, they told me the contrary, the trend this year was short, dresses. Hmmm, since when have short prom dresses been the trend? What do you think??

Besides the fact, it's starting to hit me that April is going to be a crazy fun month. Spring break/my New York trip is next week, I have to be in a fashion show, mid April, where I'll be in two segments, the prom segment (I will definitely be getting my money's worth from my prom dress, and I'm hoping I can milk free tailoring?? I think yes.), and a party clothes segment. It should be quite exciting.

Hmmm, and to conclude my completely random post about essentially nothing important, I would like to add a final thought on the recent healthcare reform. Let's be honest here, of course this is going to be a HUGE burden to many Americans, in the form of taxes, but I personally think that extending healthcare to millions, is the responsible, and the right thing to do. I must add that I am completely entertained by the GOP's childish antics in the House lately. It's fantastic right? Even if you are a Republican, you have to find some humor in the immaturity of your party. Why can't we all just get along? Thoughts? Perspectives? Ideas? Opinions? Please do share if you feel so inclined to!
Stay classy Mr. Bill. Someone needs to teach the two Houses how to have some class.

sunshine award!

Okay. It's only Tuesday, and things are already hectic! I bought yet, another prom dress, however this one... my friends... is the winner.
I absolutely love it! I found myself utterly overjoyed as soon as I put this on... the fit is perfect, my unsightly parts that don't need to be seen by the world are slimmed down, and I love the feel and fabric of the dress! I'm in love... Just ignore that gaudy headband in the picture. So thus far, prom dress can be checked off, after party can be checked off... but date? not so much... it's a work in progress. While on the subject of prom, today I went to a taste testing at the Crowne Plaza to choose and pick the foods we wanted. Best part? The delicious desserts. Definitely. Yummm.
Aside from figuring out the details of prom, I have been soaking up this beautiful California weather!! It's just too fabulous and the sun is AMAZING!!

Speaking of sunshine, today I was awarded with my first blogger award!! I'm quite excited, and quite honored, thanks to the classy and fabulous, Miss Erin of My Wildflower Wardrobe. Quite simply, she is the cutest thing ever. And has the cutest outfits! :D Thanks Erin!

its madness!

I am so glad I did not personally enter my March Madness bracket into a pool competition. Although I did believe St. Mary's would upset Villanova... yay! Gotta root for the local underdog. Tomorrow I'll be rooting for Cal in their game against Duke, yeah, I'm not sure how good that'll turn out. Anyways, today was quite a crappy day, heard some not good news, had a 2 hour session with my trainer, but after dinner I had a Kara's Velvet Chocolate Cupcake, so my day got like 100% better! The amazing things cupcakes can do (there goes the burnt calories I thought I lost at the gym this morning). Today I also bought two potential prom dresses. They were from Bloomingdales, and I figure I can return them if I ever find something else, so I stress the word, potential.

potential dress option 2, except I bought in in royal blue.
Both dresses, with the empire waistline, risk making me look big, but then again hide parts that don't need emphasizing. I tried the second dress on, and it fit beautifully, so it's definitely a contender. I have yet to try on the black one, as I'm getting it shipped in. Hmmm, this shall be interesting. Any thoughts on these two dresses? Let me hear it! Tomorrow, I think, I am going to shop at Ambiance, on Haight I haven't shopped there before, but a friend suggested I check it out, as they're notorious for their selection of dresses. But as a boutique in the Haight-Ashbury district, this can either be a super cheap dress place, or extremely, over the top, high end boutique. We will see! Either way, it looks super cute!

Last night I had the privilege (?) to explore the perverted, hilarious, creepy, crazy world of Chatroulette. There is no way I would do such a thing alone, so I embarked on this adventure with a couple of friends... and what an adventure it was! After seeing crazy funny screen shots like these, we decided we would wear masks/costumes. So I pulled out my Mexican wrestling mask with attached cape and transformed into a Luchador, while my friends consisted of a Shamrock mask, and a crazy Persian kid with hat. So imagine the reactions of people when they encountered us. I've decided most people on Chatroulette either 1) are aimlessly masturbating, 2) drunk and bored with nothing else to do, 3) are part of the like 1% that actually are looking for meaningful conversation with random strangers. Weird huh? Luckily we didn't encounter TOO many aimless wankers, but did come across old men, 12 year olds (okay, those two listed consecutively like that is a key point as to why chatroulette can be a scary place), stuffed animals, dance parties, parties, a brother and sister, and lots and lots and lots of creeps who only had boobs on their minds. Freaks. The "normal" people we did come across loved our costumes... can I tell you how rewarding it was to put smiles on strangers faces? Very rewarding. It's a funny place, this Chatroulette... and until we meet again, I will be looking for a catsuit (like the one pictured above), or any other cool masks.

classy vs. unclassy

-givesmehope.com - like FML but for optimists! Read these amazing, inspirational stories of optimism! CLASSY.
-
textsfromlastnight.com - alright, so I admit it. Every so often I catch myself scrolling through these posted drunk texts... just for kicks. They're HILARIOUS. However, they promote unclassy behavior. As I said before, its classy to get a bit saucy, but not so much when you let the whole world know about your drunken adventures and the people you hook up with. Sure, drunk texts can sometimes be an indicator of a good night, but lets not post them for the world to see. Don't give my area code a bad name! UNCLASSY.

-Filling out your March Madness NCAA tournament brackets to get in touch with the guys, and watching a couple games. CLASSY.
College Basketball= The ultimate harvesting ground of hot young college guys. So root for your favorite cutie! ;D Besides, they call their playoffs by the names of “Cinderella, The Big Dance, Sweet 16". College ball is quite classy if you ask me... maybe even pick up a few $$$ in tournament brackets?″
-Smelling like Man-Ness... Do I even need to say? UNCLASSY. [see below if this applies to you HEAVEN FORBID!]

-Dabbing on a bit of Eau Flirt ($19) on, which is proven to be some sort of "love potion", and according to Cosmo, one of the "life changing beauty products". Who knew some hints of lavender and pumpkin pie could seem so arousing to men? CLASSY.
-
Spritzing yourself endlessly in strong, overpowering perfume, as to make the person next to you on the train, or across the building from you gag/tear up. UNCLASSY. Hey now, too much perfume not only smells terrible sometimes, but can also probably cause you to catch flame. Let's steer away from being Highly Flammable... and I mean that temperature-wise.

-Broadcasting your location via twitter/foursquare/ soon to be facebook, so that your friends can locate you in that trendy restaurant you've been raving about. CLASSY.
-
Posting your location via [insert social networking site] so that tweoples, or undesireables can see where you are, almost as to post a sign that says to creeps, "hey, come get me, I'm right here ;)" UNCLASSY. I want to know what's going on in your life, not how I can stalk you 24/7! And also UNCLASSY for those creeps who stalk people via their twitter location. "Oh hey I didn't know you were going to be here?" ... Ummm, yeah you did... creep.

-Muscular guys. Guys who have a sense of style. Guys who wear diamond earrings. Guys that know designers. CLASSY.
-As I encountered many spring breakers in Arizona, I realized Guidos exist outside of the tri-state area. Wearing Affliction & Ed Hardy as if he's the only designer in the world and you would cry yourself to sleep if your rhinestone encrusted shirt tore off of your extremely, almost overpoweringly large body. UNCLASSY. Don't get me wrong... there are many attractive, noteworthy tanned males out there that wear brands like Affliction & Ed Hardy. But not all the time! I once dated a guy who owned everything EdHardy, down to a pair of Ed Hardy flip flops... too much! Hence the past tense. He was more high maintenance than me!
I'm not a fan when your shirt costs more than my shoes.

spring has almost sprung!

These past two weeks have been nothing short of exciting! Where to begin?!
As I already ranted about, two weeks ago my school was shut down because of some dumb sewer system problem... long story short, I went on a four day shopping spree that's wiped me out for a couple of months. Also in the beginning of the month I accepted an award/scholarship for my hours of community service- Special Olympics, Princess Project, etc. and the dinner/ceremony banquet I was dreading actually turned out to be pretty swell! I had no idea it was such a big deal, but the banquet dinner was held in a Sofitel Hotel, I was allowed to bring my family and one guest from my school, and I was seated at problably the best table in the house! I networked, met new people, smiled, etc. etc. and even met Congresswoman Anna Eshoo. Oh the perks.

Anyhow. This past week i only had classes for Monday-Tuesday. So Wednesday-Thursday I went on a fantastic little surf trip down in Santa Cruz! Weatherwise, we definitely got lucky. It had been raining the whole week, but for Wednesday-Thursday it stopped for some beautiful, sunny, 70 degree weather! The waves were prime for surfing too! It really couldn't have been any better. Unfortunately though, since the beautiful weather caught me off guard I got a little bit of a sun burn... which only got worse this weekend.
So I guess my thumbs up wasn't such a good idea? Hence, the leaning tower.

As you may or may not know, I'm an obnoxiously huge San Francisco Giants fan. So this weekend was my 3rd Spring Training out in Arizona! Again, weatherwise, I got SUPER lucky, as it was raining in Arizona, but was beautifully sunny this weekend! Either way, rain or shine, I would've been a happy camper... I was at Giants Spring Training! We stayed at a lovely Kimpton Hotel (my favorites) called the FireSky, in Scottsdale. One night we went to this fabulous restaurant called the Old Tortilla Factory, even though we were told it'd be an hour an a half wait, we ended up waiting only 45 mins, but it was definitely worth it! I watched 2 games, met many players, got tons of autographs, and even saw 4 Hall of Famers- Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Gaylord Perry, and Will Clark. Let me just say, I'm in love with a couple of rookies. Cuuuuties!

Last night I returned home, sunburnt... again, tired, but absolutely ecstatic for the 2010 SF Giants baseball season. We pick our season ticket games tomorrowww! Alright, that's enough ranting. Happy Monday! Am I being facetious? I can't even tell at this point.

What fantastic things did you do this weekend?

where the wild things are

"Let the wild rumpus start!"

A couple days ago I finally got to watch this movie, Where the Wild Things Are. The movie was full of fantastic indie music, including Karen O & The Kids, and was simply adorable! loved it! Although, it took me forever to figure out the mom was from the 40 Year Old Virgin, and that Mark Ruffalo had a little cameo part. Whatev. It's quite possibly my new favorite movie. Anyways, I just came home tonight from a fantastic weekend, and am coming down from a fantastic week overall! I'm much too tired to blog about it now, so more to come later! See you then!

high tea...alice in wonderland style.

"Twinkle, twinkle little bat How I wonder what you're at! Up above the world you fly, Like a tea-tray in the sky."
-Lewis Carroll
Let's be honest here. Nothing in the world is better than a fancy cup of tea. Well, possibly an adorable, tasty cupcake to accompany each sip... but that's besides the fact. Now. Take a fabulous cup of tea, and then add it to some Alice in Wonderland-esque fabulousness, and you get this...

Royal/T, Los Angeles: So this place is not only a tea cafe, but also an art studio, and apparently fashion runway! This month Royal/T will be having Alice-themed events, from an Alice inspired fashion show, to $25 Alice High Tea! Alice High Tea includes Playing Card Tea Sandwiches, Eat Me Cupcakes, Drink Me Green Tea and Cheshire Cat Macaroons. How exquisite!

Mandrin Oriental Hotel, New York: This classy hotel is serving Mad Hatter Teas until April 30th! For $42, tea time includes Twiddle Tea Sandwiches and Twiddle Crumbs Desserts like Queen of Hearts linzer tarts and Cheshire Cat cupcakes. Yumm!

Langham Hotel, London: Check it outt! A super classy Afternoon Tea alongside finger sandwiches with blue fin tuna and pickled cucumber, or smoked Scottish organic salmon with horseradish and watercress... Delish! And if you're not feeling the tea... check out their artisan cocktail bar and booze it up, Alice style of course! This Eat Me Drink Me Cocktail for $21 is a fabulous infusion of "G'vine Floraison gin shaken with lemon juice and peach liqueur, then finished with a rose petal and hibiscus sugar rim. It is served with an indulgent chocolate and caramel slice".

...Tempted? I, most certainly am!

Cheers!!

classy vs. unclassy

-The new commercial for Old Spice. Hilariously funny. classy.
-Commercials with either Verizon Wireless slamming AT&T, or visa versa. unclassy. Find some other advertising strategy you two, PLEASE! Their commercials somewhat resemble siblings bickering. Let's not involve mom and dad in this now. Grow up.

-Johnny Depp's quirkiness in Alice in Wonderland. classy.
-Obnoxiously ROTFL/LMFAO and doing other obnoxious things in the movie theater when the smoking caterpillar appeared because of the lack of maturity and because you're ridiculously high. Annoying. And so entirely, unclassy.
-Treating yourself and indulging in a cupcake every so often! classy.
-OVERindulging in cupcakes too often as to cause yourself to turn those cute little cupcakes into a muffin top. unclassy.
Of course we all have those days where our jeans seem to fit a bit too tight, however, it's very unappealing to share those days with the rest of the world by wearing a shirt that does not seem to cover your bare middriff. Throw on a sweatshirt, a longer top, a sweater.... or perhaps, here's a concept, wear pants your size? Oh I'm a bit harsh, but I have those days every so often!

-Anonymously posting your secrets on a postcard at Post Secret to find others who have the same secrets. classy.
-Posting your sister's secrets on Facebook for all to see. SO unclassy... (see below)
A girl called Katie told her parents that she found a dozen beers in her kid brother’s room which gets him grounded for 3 months. Harsh. Chris now has plenty of time on his hands so he rummages through her room and finds this little list of pure goodness which he promptly posts on Facebook and tags all the guys
So unclassy on both counts: of the brother who posted this, of the girl (ANY GIRL in this case) who keeps a hookup list!

-Cutout dresses the show just enough to keep people guessing. classy.

-Cutout dresses that leave nothing to the imagination, and perhaps belong, not on the red carpet or in public, but in the bedroom. unclassy.
-Going outside to catch some rays for a toned tan. classy. (just remember to sunscreen up!)
-Going to the tanning beds regularly as to look like a Jersey Shore princess doped up on carrots and addicted to bronzer, therefore resembling an Oompa-Loompa/Anne Hathaway in BrideWars. unclassy.
^ Prom season is coming around, so unfortunately this one will be showing up like crazy around my school. Oh joy. "What's that smell?!" "Oh... it's just my self tanner... sorry." Gross. I don't care if you use self-tanning lotion, just as long as I don't have to sit through class and smell it all day.

boots and things!

Hello! How are you this beautiful Saturday?! Today was possibly the prettiest, sunniest, Saturday morning I've seen in awhile! And I hope you all did something fabulous with your Saturdays! Anyways, after a week of shopping I figured I should post some pictures of my new finds!
These would be my pair of boots I found at Wasteland on Haight. Bargain babies!

New rainboots from good old Target! Yes! Target!!

My new bracelet and 2 finger fleur-de-lis ring. Favesies!

I would post pictures of all of my acquired goods, however the shirts, and other things are much too boring. Let's just say I went a bit overboard. But we're all entitled to go a bit overboard once in awhile right??

Today I saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D! I absolutely loved it! Wasn't it just fabulous?! My favorite part? The dresses! Dresses! Dresses! Dresses! Oh, it was love! Although I must say, there were a huge amount of little children in the theater. Granted, it is a children's story and its rating was (only) PG (!?!?!), but I didn't think it was so child appropriate! Either way I really loved the movie! If I ruled the world/was a movie theater mogul I would make the 3D glasses super cute/decorated, and offer tea during the movie! But that's just me. Hope you all are having a fabulous weekend!

03 March 2010

oh the simple joys in life.

Your school has snowdays. My school has sewage days.
Sunday evening I got an email from my school saying classes were cancelled Monday, and I was absolutely ecstatic! I love pleasant surprises like that! Then Monday something was posted online that the school will be closed down until Thursday... due to sewage problems... gross, but I'll take what I can get! It's a bit pathetic, if you think about it (and trust me, with all of this extra time on my hands, I have had lots of time to think) a school closing down for sewage issues and water overflow is perhaps the lamest/most disgusting/poorest excuse ever! Oh well! I'm loving it! Except for the fact that somewhere in the near future we will have to eventually make up these days. I'm hoping and praying it won't cut into spring break, as that would mean cutting into my New York trip! Boo! This month will be quite spectacular. I'm assuming two days of school this week... at the most, next week I only have two days as well, as I am going on a surf trip with a couple of classmates/teachers next Wednesday-Thursday. And then, Friday-Sunday I will be in Arizona for Giants Spring Training! I'm praying to be in the hot sun, as it's been quite dreary and rainy around here lately. Blah.

Whatever. All of this downtime has allowed for a TON of shopping, and a TON of time for my art. Shopping first.... The only good thing from the rain that I have gleaned, is that I finally got an opportunity to wear my new rainboots with houndstooth print! Yay! However, I'm still on the search for another pair of leather boots. While galavanting around in my rainboots, I picked up two... not one, but two... boyfriend blazers! One in black, one in gray. Love, love, loveee them! Who said rainy days always have to be gloomy?

I decided to post a couple of pictures of the new collage/painting I started this weekend. It's about 1/4 done, minus the glossing/glazing I still have to do. I still need to repeat the smoke swirl thing on the top part, and then my UNDERpainting will be complete. I'm definitely having fun with this one! Anyhow, as I am flipping through and am watching My Life As Liz, and her prom predicament... I'm realizing my own senior prom is in less than 2 months away! Therefore, I need to find a dress! Ahhh! Oh boy...

classy vs. unclassy

"Class is the sure-footedness that comes with having proved you can meet life."
- Ann Landers
-Getting a bit saucy on the occasion, yet not to the point you cannot control your liquor. classy.
-Getting ridiculously drunk every weekend, and then posting on facebook/twitter, either obscure status updates like "idm so druank" or the morning after posts, "_(insert unclassy person's name here)_ is regretting playing beer pong with vodka/cranberry last night". Need I say? unclassy.

-Staying updated on your facebook, twitter, email, texts via your blackberry. classy.
-Staying connected to your crackberry like its attached to your ear, and nothing else mattered. unclassy.

-Wearing leggings with shirts too short so your camel toe shows, or wearing sheer leggings that substitute for pants/real leggings. unclassy.
-Wearing leggings with a flowy top/dress, or wearing leggings that hide those silly details. classy.
(see previous post!)

-Being a bitter, sore loser about winning silver, as Plushenko was. unclassy.
-Winning gold like a champ, and sporting a fabulous smile. ridiculously classy.
*Evan Lysacek is officially the epitome of classy in my book. That smile. That hair. That gold. Cue the swooning.
