new art!

After a weeks-ful of glitter, paint, stencils, adhesive, glaze, scraps, cuttings, whatever I could get my hands on, I finished these little luggage tags!!

Let me know if you'd like to purchase one of these ones or if you'd like to request a specially themed tag!

when you wish...

"All I ask is that you treat me no different than you would the Queen!"

This is my new art piece I did for my mother for Mommy's Day! Paint on canvas, with glitter, magazine collage on the sides, and tissue paper. I'm pretty happy with it, despite it not being completely finished.

In other news, my college decision has changed! Unfortunately no more New York City. But I got into my #1 choice, Villanova University! I am officially a Villanova Wildcat! I'm quite excited to start up in August.

Also, I am officially a Fashion Expert on WISHPOT.COM so check out my Wishlist (on the website or in my sidebar), and make your own!!

hey now, wishes do come true!

unrequited love

I have never had a favorite photographer, but after learning about her in my Art History class, I've decided that Diane Arbus is my favorite. Officially. According to Wikipedia (the best source ever! except if youre doing research papers, that is), Diane Arbus is...
"an American photographer and writer noted for black and white square photographs of deviant and marginal people or else of people whose normality seems ugly or surreal... the photographer of freaks."

Read that and tell me how her description on Wikipedia is not the ultimate embodiment of an amazing artist! I dare you! Her work is so fabulous I wish I could have a room dedicated to Diane Arbus prints! Her work is so eerie and creepy, but I love it.

My personal favorite...

What a classy lady. Cheers to you Miss Arbus. You are fabulous.

Hope you all are having a fabulous weekend!

new art

"Bang bang, we're beautiful and dirty rich" -LadyGaga
My new piece of art that I finished a couple weeks (/months maybe?) ago and never got around to posting! Elements of Rolling Stones, Marilyn Monroe, and of course Lady Gaga. Currently, I'm still working on my John Lennon/Jimi Hendrix trip painting at home, and a little 50's pinup type print during class. I've been painting all semester, and I think I've discovered that painting isn't really my medium... so once I finish these projects, its back to the collaging and spray painting for me!

Anyways, I've been crazy busy, and it's been quite exciting! On Sunday I was in a fashion show, where I got to wear the cutest outfits... actually all dresses! These are my favorites....
Banana Republic - I loved how silky smooth this dress was!!!!

BCBG -this was by far my favorite!
Loved them.

Things are going fabulously. And you?

And with that, I bid adieu, but leave a little playlist for those interested.
(all except "Airplanes" is from Blalock's Indie Rock Playlist)

little secrets.

Today I took a midterm for my AP art history class... A midterm in February? I know right? A bit outrageous, if you ask me. Anyways, despite the fact that I absolutely love the era we're studying, Renaissance painting/sculpture/architecture, I have this terrible feeling that I bombed the test. Not much I can do now though, I suppose.

Anyways, I thought I'd post a picture of my recently completed collage:
(currently) Untitled - 12x12"

So funny story... This project, along with my other painting which is in progress, was selected for my art class and teacher to critique this week. All I could think was, "Shit, now I have to make up some ridiculous reasoning explaining my thought process behind this"... and that's what precisely what I did.

I constructed this multimedia collage/project to signify the importance of independence. I started this project during Valentines day, and essentially, this is supposed to represent a almost satire-like commentary on the holiday. On the borders are bits from the Commitments section of the newspaper... the ripped up, separated bits, symbolizing the superficiality of some marriages. I added pink flowers, butterflies, angels, etc. to cause an emotional overload on viewers, overwhelming them with Valentines nostalgia. Does it seem overly sentimental? Yes- and that is my intention, because that is precisely what I believe Valentines Day is...overly sentimental and superficial-at least in the way our culture portrays it. The central image of the piece is the single woman, almost liberated from the picture. Who says Valentines Day requires a significant other?

I pulled out something along those lines when giving my little artist commentary. Honestly, when I was working on this, I was just having fun! Was that meaning what I intended from the very beginning? Nope. But now that I created a fabulous story behind it, it's quite believable.... right? However, I'm not that much of a critic of Valentines Day.... afterall, no one likes a Debbie Downer.

In other news, my trip to Arizona for a weekend in March for Giants spring training, is all planned out! Everything except the hotel. Anyone know any fabulous hotels in the Scottsdale, AZ area? Hmmm. Nonetheless, I can't wait! I'm planning on getting a nice tan (I'm hoping no sunburns like last year!), watching some good baseball, and meeting some of the amazing players. I love spring training! I'm an avid, no, diehard, no, EXTREME SF Giants fan... it's my little secret!

What's your little secret? ;]

P.S. Follow me on TWITTER! please and thank you.

doppel-whaaat?

the word "doppelgänger" has come to refer (as in German) to any double or look-alike of a person.

I must say, I'm thoroughly enjoying this doppelganger trend on Facebook for a variety of reasons!
1) because more than 3/4 of the people actually posting their doppelganger pictures, probably don't even know what the word means! (I admit, I learned what it was this year after reading Frankenstein) Do you sense some cynicism? I think yes.
2) because I love love love seeing who people think they look like... its even better when it actually looks like them!
3) I admit to being entertained and amused when the person's doppelganger look nothing like them. In most cases, the doppelganger is so much better looking, and in a good number of cases, the person and their doppelganger, are not even comparable! I'm secretly saying to myself, "hmm, you really think you look like that?" (I guess in someway this situation just means the person has a high self esteem!) oh, is that mean? Admit it, if you see this, you're pleasantly amused. You've got a silent LOL going in, I know it, and you know it.

I would definitely put up a doppelganger picture, except the fact that there aren't that many famous asians I know of, let alone, famous/noteworthy asians that I look like. Mulan? Brenda Song? Nah. Oh well.

I had quite a fabulous weekend. And I hope you did as well! The rain stopped and Sunday morning I got some sunshine and created a new artpiece for one of my best friend's birthday! No, I did not see Dear John this weekend. I would rather gag than watch that. I think Nicholas Sparks is a goddamned overly sentimental fool, yet slightly sadistic and conspiring to cause an emotional overload to vulnerable girls and women. Oh, and he's a predictable romance novelist. Oh, not so jolly Nick, I'm unimpressed. Every one of your books ends with a completely random/unrealistic ending which is terribly depressing and makes me feel conflicted between whether I want to fall hopelessly in love with the leading man, hate him, feel sorry for him, or what.

So my inner cynic came out. And for that I apologize... well, not really. These are simply my opinions! Did I say that my doppelganger was the grinch? ;] peace&love darlings.

art, art, art.

Sooo I've been experimenting with stenciling and spraypainting and I already love this technique. Although I must say, I hate working with Exacto knives! Anyways... here are a few pics of my first experiences with this new, fun, exciting medium! I ordered a bunch of spray paint over the weekend which should be here any day soon! I can't say I'm not excited... get that? ha.
This one's my favorite stencil,,, and I plan on making more like this! Definitely can't wait to try this one out on actual canvas and colored paint, instead of cardboard and spray paint glue. I still like how it turned out though!

A shot of my worktable at home and a couple other stencils I made: Fleur-de-lis', an audrey-esque silhouette, and the comic book eyes!

My newly created houndstooth patterned stencil.
...
Where are you spray paint?! I'm anxiously waiting!

hot mess

hello lovelies,
I'm a terrible mess currently... it's a bit ridiculous (as you can see above)!! Ahhh! Well I'm picking back up with school so I've been quite busy this week with meetings, blah, blah, blah, and my BIRTHDAY on THURSDAY! YAY! I will officially be legal! Ohhh boyy. Its an absolute travesty, however, because I have nothing to wear to school for my birthday, nor do I have a fabulous outfit yet for my tea party on Saturday. Ohhh joyy. Anywho, yesterday I had a pleasant visit with a friend who had been away in Madrid all semester... it was nice to see him and chit-chat and hear about all of his amazing travel experiences. EEEK! I'm so ready for college next year! In fact, I'm visiting Fordham, NY and Northeastern in Boston in February... exciting much? I think so.
Besides all of the exciting things happening, I've currently run into one minor dilemma. My ex. We had a pretty terrible break up more than 6 months ago, and after he has gone MIA, not responding to any of my texts/calls/ emails/facebooks/etc. hes deciding to contact me now... and I'm not sure WHAT to think about it! Luckily I don't have that "ohhh lets get back together" feeling... thank god. But this person is a completely different person than the one I knew many months ago. He's basically gone through a 360 degree change, for the worse... its unhealthy, and I don't think he's happy. I definitely don't want to be with him ever again, and I want to make him feel how terrible I felt when he left me without a word for MONTHS, but at the same time I want to be there for him... no matter how distant and different he is. He forgot how we used to be, and has forgotten so much about me, and our past relationship... and I must admit, it hurts. But I'm glad this has been made clear to me that I shouldn't be missing him and don't want to be with him, but I dont know if I should stick around and help him with his "problems" and "issues". Its bad. I'm conflicted, confused, but ontop of it, and selfishly... relieved that I no longer have feelings for him. Ohhh dear...

...Wow. That was an unattractively long post. WOOO I apologize! I feel like it all had to get off my chest!

cheers to you, 2010

What's my new years resolution? Well, I dont have one. I don't believe in new years resolutions because typically I will forget whatever I resolved to do/not to do after the month. Surely, I believe in goal setting, however, why not change yourself /do something different December 31st, rather than January 2nd? It makes no difference to me. Call me a pessimist, but new years isn't a day to "hit the reset button", but rather a marking point we use to reflect upon and see what we can change. So with that, I've come up with a couple of goals to keep in mind for as long as I remember, lol.

stop being such a pessimist
I find myself more and more irritated by optimism and hate myself for it. Though it doesn't make me an extremely negative person, I don't like the negative aura I give out... no bueno. smile, jesus loves you ;]

pump it up
strengthen myself physically (and mentally) to go strong 365 days and beyond. now that i'm a second semester senior I have more time to go to the gym, workout, go to classes, etc.

chillax
i'm finally a second semester senior and accepted into college. need I say more?
WARNING: Do not confuse this with "slack off"

make more time for art
self explanatory, yeah?

what are your new years resolutions/future goals?

This one is a casino royale/gangster theme. I have yet to name it. any ideas? It was just for fun, so nothing special!

This one is my favorite collage yet! I know you can't tell in the picture but it's on a 24x30" canvas. It's a zoohattan/concrete jungle theme. Definitely my favorite!

sun's in the sky, it makes for happy endings

I love december. That means sooner or later there will be a new blalock's indie/rock playlist! beautiful! Today was incredibly nondescript, so dull, so drab, so blah. I didn't get to go to marc jacobs, sadface. What I did get to do was see this amazing piece of art... its a now-time favorite [you know, like essentially the opposite of alltime, now-time just means ultimate... for now ;] It's gorgggg, sooner or later I want to attempt something like this:

by greg gossel

Since I no longer have my favorite yoga class to go to anymore I decided to check out the other classes my gym offers... any thoughts on Zumba? I've been dying to take a Zumba class, and tomorrow I will finally get the chance! Hmmmm, we'll see how it goes! I'm going with a friend so it should be fun, as long as I don't get my ass kicked. cheers to new experiences! love it. Anyways, lately my dog's been suffering from depression... I'm almost positive. Poor baby, she's been so sad and mopey looking all the time... but it kinda makes her adorable. Is it bad that I had to snap a few shots of her being all cute and depressed?

"I am you, you are I"

"Since everything is a reflection of our minds, everything can be changed by our minds."
-heart of a buddha

This morning I visited a Buddhist temple, which I was pretty excited about. From the outside it looked pretty small and quaint, but it was absolutely beautiful on the inside! Darling! The service was interesting as well... a lot of meditating, chanting, singing. Most of all, I loved listening to the sensi's sermon. He kept repeating himself, saying "i am you, you are i". It was all about how everything is interconnected... how, like, if you see a piece of paper, you also see a cloud, which produced the rain to give life to the trees, which became paper. So ridiculously deep. The community was so welcoming also... I might have to visit again soon! Here are some pictures I took from within the temple:

definitely going to have to visit again soon.
